Golden Lake

If you ever find yourself wandering the streets of Salford near 92 Phoebe Street, there’s one name you shouldn’t pass up-Golden Lake. This spot has quietly built a reputation among Manchester locals and food adventurers alike, and it’s easy to see why. Golden Lake isn’t your average takeaway-it’s a comforting blend of authentic Asian flavor, satisfying portions, and late-night eats done right. Whether you’re grabbing a quick solo bite after work or gathering with friends for something more substantial, this place ticks the boxes.

Let’s start with the menu, which honestly reads like a greatest hits of Chinese and Southeast Asian comfort food. A crowd favorite? The Pork Chop with Black Pepper on Rice Noodles Ho Fun-tender, peppery, and aromatic, served over wide rice noodles that soak up the sauce like a dream. But don’t stop there. If seafood’s your thing, the Three Treasure Seafood Chow Mein packs scallops, prawns, and squid into a generous stir-fry with just the right amount of wok char. Another go-to is the XO Seafood Fried Rice, which brings a bold, umami-rich kick that pairs well with their lighter offerings like Tom Yum Soup or Water Spinach.

If you’re after something classic, the Sweet and Sour Chicken or Beef Chow Mein is where comfort meets familiarity, while the Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings deliver that crispy, spicy crunch people keep coming back for. Want a plate that feels like home but with a twist? Try the Swiss Style Chicken, or if you’re in the mood for fusion bites, Takoyaki and Prawn Toast offer something slightly off the beaten path.

What’s particularly refreshing about Golden Lake is how well it caters to a mix of eating styles. For solo diners, it's a gem-affordable, quick, and with just the right amount of coziness. You can dine in and unwind, or grab something on the go. The restaurant offers takeaway, no-contact delivery, and a smooth dine-in service for those who want to savor their meal right there. Accessibility is also a plus-the entrance is wheelchair-friendly, making it more welcoming for all diners.

Service-wise, Golden Lake operates with quiet efficiency. You won’t find over-the-top fanfare, but you will get your food piping hot, exactly as ordered, and usually in record time. And for anyone with a night owl appetite, their late-night food offerings are a serious win. Think BBQ Ribs, Fried Fish, and maybe a cheeky serving of Steamed Scallops to close out your day.

There’s something comforting about a place that doesn’t try too hard to be trendy but focuses instead on flavor, speed, and value. Golden Lake is just that kind of spot. It delivers consistent, flavorful plates with a balance of traditional recipes and bold flavor updates. No fuss. Just seriously good food. And if you’re the type who likes a variety of smaller bites? They do small plates too, making it easy to try a little bit of everything.

In a city brimming with food options, Golden Lake might not scream for attention-but once you’ve eaten here, it doesn’t need to. Whether you're in the mood for Spicy Aubergine and Rice, West Lake Beef Soup, or a simple Baked Chicken Chop, Golden Lake earns its place as a go-to for flavorful, reliable Asian eats in Manchester.

Well deserved 5/5! We went to Ocean Cook for the 1st time today, in the afternoon for lunch, and surely worth it!! Got to give the credits to them for bringing the brilliant flavours to us. We absolutely love the food there, and the quality surprises us. We got the hot milk tea, salt and pepper squid, stir-fried Ho fan with sliced beef, Seafood Fried Instant Noodles with XO sauce, steamed scallops with garlic and rice vermicelli, homemade Japanese Takoyaki Octopus Balls. Got recommended to try this restaurant by two colleagues, that's why I decided I have to give it a go. Ended up, it's awesome we got here for a meal, we enjoy the taste of every dish we got, and the portion is great and left with contentment and full tummies for sure.

Have been here multiple times and always get the chicken/beef fried ho fun and Hamon Style Vermicelli Noodles for a sweet and tangy taste. The food never disappoints. There is a huge variety of dishes to choose from. Ambience and atmosphere is cosy and authentic. Not an appropriate setting for a romantic date. The portions are large, can easily share 1 between 2.

The dishes at this Chinese restaurant are truly amazing, each one leaving a lasting impression. Not only are they flavorful, but the portions are generous, providing excellent value for money. The staff's attentive service and friendly attitude create a welcoming atmosphere, making it a dining experience to remember.

The flavors of the dishes we ordered didn't really stand out compared to other Chinese takeout or restaurant. The staffs seemed indifferent rather than rude. Two Hong Kong street signs decorated on the walls, evoking a sense of memories for the flavors of Hong Kong. However, the milk tea failed to live up to expeactations, lacking the rich and authentic taste I was hoping for. Overall, I left the feeling disappointed with this dining experience.
